A Stylish Traveller’s Guide to Melbourne – Where to Shop, Brunch & Stay

Despite now living in the UK, Melbourne is my hometown, and like most Melbournians, I know where to find the best places to shop, eat and stay (well I like to think I do!).

A cosmopolitan, multi-cultural, and trend forward city, Melbourne is constantly growing in cool and very Instagram-worthy eating spots and hangouts. New amazing places are popping up all the time, and for travellers, finding where to eat, or even where to stay in Melbourne can be tricky.

This is where I come in to help. I’ve put together a guide of stylish tips to take with you next time you’re in Melbourne. Believe me, you’ll be a seasoned coffee fiend shopaholic Melbournian in no time!

Where to Shop

A stylish travellers guide to Melbourne

Melbourne CBD

The city is a fabulous starting point for shopping lovers. You literally have every store you can think of just a 5-10 minute walk from each other. The three areas I recommend you shop at in the city include:

Bourke St – Your go-to for high street like Zara, H&M, Myer, David Jones and Sportgirl.

Collins Street – The Paris-end of Collins St is a must for those who love a touch of designer. Here you’ll find Dior, Chanel and the best designer shoe and accessory shop in the city, Miss Louise Boutique.

Emporium – The Emporium is an amazing new addition to the city. Here you’ll find everything from Acne and Zimmermann, to Seed and Kookai.

South Yarra/Prahran

Chapel Street is my fave place for shopping in Melbourne. With hundreds of fabulous shops to choose from such as Country Road, Green with Envy, Aje, Scanlan & Theodore and Tony Bianco, you will certainly find a hot new outfit (or a few) here!

Smith Street and Brunswick Street are a go-to for anything vintage, individual and artsy. There’s also some amazing furniture and homeware shops around these areas, so make sure you go for a sticky beak!

Where to Brunch

Stables of Como – South Yarra

Oh my gosh, Stables of Como would have to be my favourite cafe in Melbourne. Not only is it super cute, but the food is amazzzzing! Whenever I have visitors I always take them to the Stables and they fall in love with it too!

Top Paddock – Richmond

Top Paddock is another one of my fave eating spots in Melbourne. Whatever you do, try their hotcakes…ultimate yumminess!

Combi – Elwood

Heath nuts will be in heaven at Combi. It’s green smoothie/acai/chia seed central here! If you’re heading to the Bayside area for a day at the beach make sure you try out Combi, you won’t be disappointed!

Where to Stay

Adelphi Hotel – Melbourne CBD

Fashionistas say hello to your paradise. Located in the heart of the CBD, the Adelphi Hotel is perfect for a luxurious, yet not too pricy stay in Melbourne. The hotel is close to the city shopping areas and has some of Melbourne’s top restaurants on it’s doorstep. It also has a first-class cocktail bar and a rooftop pool.

The Olsen – South Yarra

A part of the Art Series Hotel Group, The Olsen is the perfect place to stay if you’d like to be close to Chapel St, yet not too far away from the city or the St Kilda area. Art lovers will fall in love with the beautiful art work that adorn the hotel’s walls, and cheese lovers will love the delicious cheese platter the restaurant offers, believe me it’s so good!

Crown Towers – Southbank

If you’re wanting to splash a little more cash on your stay in Melbourne, the Crown Towers is for you. The hotel, which is a part of the Crown complex, is luxury at its finest and is home to countless designer shops and incredible restaurants. Many sportspeople and celebrities stay at the Crown when they come to Melbourne, so star-spotters this is definitely the place for you!
