Amsterdam is a foodie’s paradise. It’s particularly known for their fries, cheese and sweet treats such as waffles, stroopwafels and poffertjes (mini pancakes), but they also have an incredible selection of restaurants, cafes and wine and cocktail bars to enjoy.
Here are a number of eating and drinking spots we recommend you visit in Amsterdam.
Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx
Located in Amsterdam’s city centre, Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx have the best and most famous fries in Amsterdam. They have over 25 different sauces to choose from, but the mayonnaise, sambal and joppie sauces are definitely worth trying.
MaMa Kelly Amsterdam
With a remarkably quirky pink interior, MaMa Kelly Amsterdam is one of the most Instagrammable restaurant decors you’ll find in Amsterdam. The restaurant has a unique menu, serving lobster or chicken as their signature dishes. There aren’t many options here for vegetarians, but if you don’t mind, the restaurant is well-worth coming to just to check out the decor. Make sure you book prior, as it’s said to be very hard to get a place if you don’t have a reservation.
Tapas Restaurant Barça
Add a little touch of the Mediterranean to your Amsterdam trip by heading to Tapas Restaurant Barça, located on the Marie Heinekenplein. With a gorgeous outdoor terrace, you can sit outside while enjoying delightful wine and authentic Spanish tapas, just like you would in Barcelona.
Market 33 is a stylish hawker style food haul, which showcases some of the best eating spots in the city under one roof. You’re spoilt for choice with a selection of cuisines from Vietnamese to Middle Eastern, and of course, a wonderful bar area.
Dignita Cafe Amsterdam
Fancy a healthy brunch and good coffee? Dignita is the place to go. With two locations, one in Amsterdam Zuid and the other in Hoftuin, Dignita is an easy place to find. Enjoy fresh, nutritious meals, created with locally sourced ingredients.
Door 74 is a super cool speakeasy bar where you have to knock on a random unmarked door to be let in! Come here for an evening of delicious cocktails and funky music.
A super cute and very Instagrammable cafe, Pluk Amsterdam is the perfect spot to go to for a coffee and cafe break, breakfast or lunch. With a focus on healthy food, Pluk has everything from breakfast bowls to matcha cakes.
Located in a newly renovated tram depot, Foodhallen was inspired by indoor food markets like London’s Borough Market and Copenhagen’s Torvehallerne. The loft-like space is home to the very best of Amsterdam’s culinary and has over 20 unique stores, from Michelin star, to a mix of international street food.
With a peaceful vibe and jungle-yet-urban decor, Benji’s is the perfect modern brunch oasis. Enjoy dishes inspired by cultures from around the world, sip on coffee from Dutch roastery, Peeze, have an energising smoothie, or treat yourself to a beer, wine or cocktail.
Kitchen & Bar Rijn
Fancy something a little fancy? Kitchen & Bar Rijn could be your kind of place. The fine dining restaurant and bar is a perfect spot to come for a delicious dutch meal or simply for a cheeky vino, or two. The decor is elegant, luxe and contemporary.
GlouGlou is a chilled out wine bar with a brilliant range of natural wines. Come here for a relaxing afternoon or evening, and enjoy the shabby chic interior, good wine and yummy nibbles, including cheese boards.
