Love it or hate it, lilac is big and back for 2018. Designers and brands are jumping on this unique colour, so much so (sorry for the haters) there will be no great lilac escape for spring/summer.
Everyone is playing with it, from Victoria Beckham and Alice McCall, to Ganni, Balenciaga and Gucci, to Zara, Mango and Next. The pretty pastel is adorning everything, from two-piece suits to pointed kitten heels. Fancy a purple pout? Yes, there are even lilac lipsticks.
Love lilac, but not sure how to wear it? Or, hate it and need some convincing/inspiration? Here are my tips for how to style 2018’s top colour trend.
Style head to toe
Be brave and style lilac head to toe for the ultimate fashion forward look. It’s easier to style than you think. Opt for a two-piece suit, a maxi dress, or knit and pencil skirt.
Think head to toe lilac is too much, but really love purple? Get creative and add pops Pantone’s colour of the year for 2018, ultra violet. Style your lilac suit or dress with ultra violet shoes or accessories, or team lilac jeans with an ultra violet top. This combo isn’t for the faint hearted, but it is so much fun.
Add a splash of colour
Not into purple? Pair your lilac piece with white, silver or another pastel shade, such as baby blue or blush pink, for a cute and light spring/summer look, or go bold with a splash of bright colour, such as yellow or red.
Edge it up with black
They say you should be careful styling black with such a pretty pastel, but I say go for it. Black and lilac is an edgy combination, which is perfect for those who think the lilac is too girly.
Ease in to it with one piece
Choose a lilac sweater or blouse and team it with jeans; pair lilac wide leg jeans or a pencil skirt with a t-shirt; or style lilac shoes with a neutral coloured outfit. This is an easy way to style the trend, without going too OTT.
Lilac still not quite your thing?
Accessorise! Adding a lilac bag, lilac jewellery, a lilac scarf, lilac shoes, or even a lilac lipstick to your outfits, is a great way to test the trend and see if it suits you. Style your lilac accessories with denim, grey or white for a crisp and cool look.
