Florals are always a given trend when it comes to spring/summer, so of course for SS17, they’re in again. Bold blooms, oriental flowers and retro 70s florals will be seen, and I have to admit I’m quite excited.
However, despite being so popular, florals do have the reputation of being the ‘girly’ print, which can tend to put off fashionista’s like me. I love my edge when it comes to style, and floral can sometimes be a little too, dare I say it… boring.
But! As with everything in fashion, it’s all about how you style it, babes. How you style the floral will depend on whether it’s gorgeously girly, or edgy sexy.
If you’re like me and love to add a little spice to your florally look, then just follow my rules:
- Purchase a floral item that’s versatile. Par exemple, I’ve styled my floral dress with everything, from a bright red belt, velvet platform sandals, a glitter clutch, statement earrings, the list goes on. A versatile floral will allow you to style the look in various ways, with numerous pieces. Think about if and how you can transform the item before you purchase.
- Don’t style your floral look with the pretty or plain pair of shoes, as much as they may be the easier option. Get your style sass on and opt for the funky boots or unique heels instead.
- Cool accessories and jewels are a must. Think midnight black, pop art, bright colours, glitzy glitter, and pom poms, of course.
- You may not think about it, but how you do your hair has quite the impact on the overall look you’re wanting to achieve, especially when it comes to florals. For a bit of added sexiness, I say keep your hair free and messy (but effortlessly fashionable messy). No cutesy hairstyles.
Thankfully, the floral prints coming through this season are surprisingly edgy in themselves (hello retro wallpaper prints!), so babes you shouldn’t have too much of a hard time styling an uber cool look.
If you do need some more help however, give me a holla.
