Flying is something I quite enjoy. Yes,Β I’d prefer to travel business class (especially for long flights!), but for now I have to travel in economy, andΒ it’s actually not too bad,Β as long as you bring certain items on board to help you throughout theΒ flight.
Long haul flights can take a lot out of you, butΒ being prepared will help you stay comfortable, rested, and will help with the recovery after landing.
I’ve found in order to survive economy AND long haul travel, theseΒ are the essential items I need to take with me.
E. Xx
Clothing
I always pack a few extra pieces of clothing in my carry-on just incase it’s gets chillyΒ or I spill something on myself throughout the flight. If you’re struggling to fitΒ extra clothes into your carry-on, roll them up neatly at the bottom of you handbag. This will also create a base for your beauty products and accessories. If you can’t fit the clothesΒ in your bag, bring a small suitcase on board with you and stow them away in there.
Socks
Nice thick socks are a definite must pack. I take my shoes off as soon as I get on the plane and pop my socks on. There are certain socks you can buyΒ to help with circulation, but I haven’t had a chanceΒ to purchaseΒ any yet. I normally bring something similar to the New Look Cable Knit Socks.
T-shirt
Having an extra t-shirt with you while you fly is also a must. What if you have lots of turbulence or lots of red wine (that would be me!), and you spill something on yourself?! If you manage to not be such a klutz (I’m definitely one!), it’s still nice to freshen up and be able to change yourΒ top during your stop-over.
Thongs (or Flip Flops depending where you’re from!)
I like taking a pair of thongs/flip flops with me on the plane so I can easily pop them on toΒ go to the bathroom, or to have a walk around to stretch my legs. I like Havaianas Flip Flop Logo Metallic.
Wrap or Poncho
I always get really, really cold on airplanes, even with the blankets! So I make sure to bring a scarf/wrap/poncho to keep myself extra warm.
Beauty Products
Now it might seem likeΒ there’s quite a few items on my airplane beauty list, but if you can find little travel sizes where you can it’ll definitely help with the weight of your bag. Make sure to save the bigger size products for your suitcase. There’s nothing I hate more than stepping off the plane at a stop-over and lugging around a really heavy carry-on when you’ve had no sleep! You’re allowed up to 100ml for carry-on liquids, but 100ml x lots of beauty products can equal one heavy bag, so try to travel size it up where you can.
Hand Sanitiser
Not only is hand sanitiser one of the most useful products to haveΒ while flying, it’s a great product to have with you while travelling in general. I usedΒ Aesop Resurrection Rinse Free Hand WashΒ non-stop while I was awayΒ recently, and it’s the best hand sanitiser I’ve ever used. It smells sooooo good too!
Lip Balm
You’reΒ body dries out like crazy while you’re in the air, so I like to have the right products to ensure I’m not a dried out prune when I land. For the lips, I loveΒ Aesop Rosehip Seed Lip Cream. It’s like a rich creamy moisturiser but for the lips, whichΒ leaves them soft, supple and super nourished. I loveΒ AesopΒ products!
Face Wipes
Face wipes are perfect for a freshen-up while flying. They’re a must, must, must have in my books! TryΒ Korres Milk Protein Cleansing WipeΒ for anΒ instant clean and cleanse.
Face Spray
I use a face spray constantly while I’m flying. Β With just a few spritz you’ll feel like you’ve had a shower, well kind of!Β Kora Balancing Rose MistΒ is the perfect product for re-hydration.
Face Cream
As well as a face spray, I like to put onΒ a good intense face moisturiser while I’m in the air. You’ll be sure to come off the plane with fresh plump skin, which will make you look much less tired than you actually are. I’ve just come across Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator, and it looks like a handy and powerful little product for travelling.
Accessories
Organisation is KEYΒ when travelling. I find having seperate compartments for beauty products, passports, travel docs etc, is one of the easiest ways to organise your carry-on. Then you know exactly where things are when you need them. The less clutter, the less stressed you’ll feel.
Passport Holder
I like having all my documents together in one place while I’m travelling. I have my tickets, passport and other important information all together, so going through passport control, customs or filling out documents on the plane is simple and quick. I love the look of The Daily EditedΒ products, and I’ve been meaning to purchase something from them for ages. I really love theΒ Pale Pink Travel WalletΒ and theΒ Taupe Pouch with Pale Pink Stripe. Either product would make the perfect stylish travel companion for all your important travel things!
Tote Handbag
I loveΒ having a big carry-on handbag while travelling. I have theΒ Longchamp Le Pliage Large Tote Bag,Β and it’s been my best and most stylish investment yet for travelling. Not only can you fit so much in the bag, it is made out of a lightweight material andΒ is surprisingly SO sturdy. While having a look on the Longchamp website recently I came across theΒ Le Pliage Artwalk Large Tote Bag, which I’ve poppedΒ below. Don’t you think it’sΒ gorgeous?!

I bring really similar things on long haul flights, I can’t be without my fuzzy socks and some extra pieces of clothing to keep me warm. I swear once the plane takes off it gets 50% colder, I’m always freezing!

I couldn’t agree more on all the essentials you put together. Most of them are my must-haves when I am on the go & up in the air. I travel loads, especially lately. At least 6 flights a month.
So this post is definitely up my street π I also love that you didn’t just list the items but recommended products! I will looking into those. Thanks so so much for sharing, hon!
Fab as always!

Face cream is one to have on a flight that’s for sure, hand-cream also! A lip balm is a great one to have, for added colour try Clarins Lip Balm Perfector, they were my go to on holiday on the flights and also whilst abroad for the day!

Oh I love these suggestions, definitely going to add some of these to my bag when I fly. I get really bad anxiety so I have to bring headphones so I can listen to music and a phone charger so I can make sure my phone won’t die! I like to bring my iPad to read books (or an actual book but I get them mainly on my iPad now). I’ve also debated getting one of those silly neck pad things for long flights so if I sleep my head doesn’t bob around or hurt from being in an uncomfortable position!
Emma Spencer | Author | November 21, 2015

Thanks so much lovely!! Sounds like you have a great list there! Travel anxiety is the worst, I don’t get it on planes but I get it in cars, and it’s awful, so I know how you feel! I’ve got a neck pillow, and it’s pretty cringe haha but it’s so comfy and really does help you sleep, so you should definitely look into one! Thanks so much for reading and for your comment love π xx
